  • Burwalls House, Bristol

    Built in 1872, the Jacobean-style Burwalls House in Bristol is set to undergo major redevelopment to create a series of new high-specification residential properties. Appointed at the planning stage, we provided a series of energy assessments to help the complex project receive planning permission and allow construction to begin.

  • How to achieve a good U-value 

    U-values (measured in Watts per metre Kelvin - W/m2K) measure the rate of heat loss through building elements. As they impact on both the dwelling emission rate and fabric energy efficiency targets, they ultimately govern the result of the SAP (the Standard Assessment Procedure) test used to assess a house’s energy performance. Achieving ‘good’ (low) U-values gives you the baseline for achieving and exceeding Building Regulations. But what are the best ways to achieve a good U-value? There are so many options in terms of design and materials you can be spoilt for choice. So where should you start?

  • SAP Calculations

    SAP Calculations are a Building Regulations requirement for all new residential developments, conversions and some extensions. The Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) is a measure of the energy efficiency of a property and is the calculation from which an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) is generated. An EPC is one of the documents that is required for building control sign off and is a legal requirement when a property is sold or rented.
