We were commissioned to undertake the thermal modelling and carry out a feasibility assessment of Hauser & Wirth's warehouse near to Salisbury so that the client could use this space to store their clients’ artwork.

Hauser & Wirth in Somerset is a pioneering world-class gallery and multi-purpose arts centre, which acts as a destination for experiencing art, architecture and the remarkable Somerset landscape through new and innovative exhibitions of contemporary art.

We were commissioned to undertake the thermal modelling and carry out feasibility assessment of their warehouse near to Salisbury so that the client could use this space to store their clients’ artwork. The warehouse needs to be within certain temperature profiles, with very minimal changes to the internal climate as fluctuations and moisture can severely damage artwork especially artwork that is vintage.

The warehouse was unheated and partially insulated and had condensation issues. The proposals were to fully insulate the building. The thermal model assessed the internal environment prior to and following the improvements to clarify the feasibility of the improvements. We were able to provide conclusions, suggestions and proposals to improve the internal air temperature, building humidity, air, moisture content, and internal surface temperature to reduce condensation risk.

These works enabled the fabric to be improved which in turn guaranteed the condition of the stored artwork which is a fundamental to their business.
