Air Conditioning (AC) Inspections are a legal requirement under the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), as part of a government initiative to drive improvements in energy efficiency.  Building owners and managers who operate air conditioning systems have statutory obligations under this requirement to ensure that Air Conditioning Inspections are carried out by an Accredited Air Conditioning Assessor.

The Energy Performance of Buildings Directive is designed to improve efficiency and reduce the electricity consumption, operating costs and carbon emissions of your Air Conditioning system.

An Air Conditioning Inspection Report will highlight areas where operational improvements can be made to Air Conditioning Systems; with the savings identified often covering the cost of the inspection.

All new systems over 12kW installed after January 2008 must be inspected within 5 years. This applies to the Air Conditioning system and not just the building so takes into account residential homes, commercial buildings and public buildings.

Good to know:

  • The initial inspection of existing air conditioning systems with an output of over 12 kW should have been completed by 4th January 2011.
  • All existing systems with a 250 kW cooling capacity should have been completed by 4th January 2009.
