Current building regulations require sound testing to be carried out in a minimum of 10% of the development. We can advise on the required amount of sound testing needed to satisfy the requirements of your Building Control Officer.

If Robust Details have been registered for your site, Pre Completion testing may not be required.

For purpose built dwellings or dwellings formed by material change of use, the Building Regulations Approved Document E 2003 'Resistance to the Passage of Sound' requires separating structures to adhere to the following requirements as detailed in Table 1a below:

Table 1a: Dwelling-houses and flats —performance standards for separating walls, separating floors, and stairs that have a separating function.

The Sound Testing procedures are carried out in accordance with current standards ISO 140-4 'Field Measurement of Airborne Sound Insulation between Rooms' and ISO 140-7 'Field Measurement of Impact Sound Insulation of Floors.' The results are rated in accordance with ISO 717-1 and ISO 717-2. These results are then assessed generally in accordance with the 2010 Building Regulations Document E 'Resistance to the Passage of Sound' in order to indicate compliance.

We offer Part E Pre completion testing at a very competitive rate, and can carry out testing nationwide.

How we can help:

Our experienced Sound Engineers carry out a large number of tests on a weekly basis, and therefore, if any failures occurs they have the experience and knowledge to identify noise leakage paths within the construction, enabling remedial works to be carried out by the site in order for the building to be re tested and meet the requirement of the 2010 Building Regulations Document E.

The Sound Insulation tests are carried by UKAS certified Engineers, and all the equipment used is regularly calibrated to UKAS accredited standards, as per the UKAS Directive Lab 23.
