Ami Brahmkshatriya
Senior Sustainability Consultant
How I support clients:
I believe that being a good listener is one of the most important skills in my role as a sustainability consultant. By truly understanding my clients’ aspirations, project briefs, and the challenges they face, I can provide cost-effective, tailored solutions to achieve the desired environmental ratings for their projects. I liaise with all the consultants involved—from design to handover—and work hard to simplify the assessment process, ensuring it’s easy to understand for everyone involved.
The Types of Problems I Love to Solve Are...
Every project brings its own unique constraints and opportunities, and I enjoy understanding and working with these to achieve the best possible outcomes. Whether it’s helping a team with no prior BREEAM experience meet sustainability targets or balancing environmental ratings with project requirements, I thrive on finding practical, effective solutions that stay true to the principles of sustainability.
In My Career, the Thing That I Am Most Proud Of...
I’m incredibly proud to be part of the building industry’s transition towards sustainability from the very early stages of my career. As a BREEAM assessor, I’ve had the privilege of influencing the sustainability of the built environment holistically—addressing areas like ecology, waste, water management, embodied energy, and carbon reduction. Knowing that my work contributes to the fight against climate change is immensely fulfilling.
Outside Work...
I’m deeply passionate about yoga, meditation, and reading, which help me stay balanced and centred. I love travelling and hiking, as they allow me to connect with nature and explore different cultures. As a trained Indian classical dancer, I also enjoy performing traditional dance, which keeps me connected to my roots.
Professional Background and Qualifications
I earned a Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) degree in 2003 as a university and state topper and was recognised as one of the top five architecture graduates across India. Later, as a Commonwealth Scholar, I completed an MSc in Renewable Energy and Architecture at the University of Nottingham, UK.
My qualifications include BREEAM New Construction, Code for Sustainable Homes, and IGBC AP (Indian Green Building Council). I have also held licenses for BREEAM International and In-Use. Over nearly 20 years, I’ve worked as a registered architect in India and as an RIBA Part II equivalent architectural designer in the UK. Since 2007, my focus has been on environmental design and assessments, and I’ve assessed and certified projects across various sectors.
